The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) is the latest to jump on the bandwagon, announcing plans to launch its own T20 league in the 2025-26 season. This move aligns with a growing trend among state associations looking to promote local talent and provide a platform for aspiring cricketers.
Anil Patel, Secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association, confirmed the decision to Cricbuzz. While the launch is confirmed, the GCA is still working out key details. This includes identifying a suitable window in the cricketing calendar and finalizing the number of teams that will participate.
These domestic T20 leagues have become increasingly important for IPL franchises, serving as scouting grounds for identifying promising players. Leagues in Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra, and Saurashtra have already proven successful in providing local talent with exposure and opportunities. Many of these leagues are typically held in June and July, following the conclusion of the IPL season in May. The Gujarat T20 league will aim to replicate this success, fostering cricketing talent within the state.
